By signing my name below, my child(ren) has(have) permission to participate in the Beth Shalom Congregation Religious School (BSCRS). I give permission for my child(ren) to receive emergency medical care by any nurse, doctor, paramedic or member of a medical staff of a hospital licensed by the State of Maryland. I understand that every effort will be made to notify a parent/guardian prior to treatment. I certify that my child(ren) is(are) in good health. They have permission to participate in all activities that are part of the regular religious school program. If your child needs physical accommodations, please contact the Education Director directly.
At Beth Shalom Congregation we are committed to Lifelong Jewish learning and aim to provide all students this foundation in childhood. In order to become Bat/Bar Mitzvah at Beth Shalom Congregation, we expect that students will attend a meaningful Jewish educational program in order to achieve this goal. Attendance for the Religious School lower grades (K-2) meet once a week on Sunday's, and upper school grades (3-7) meet twice a week, fulfills this requirement. PreK meets one Sunday a month. Schedule
From time to time your child’s photo may be taken in our classrooms or special events. We use these photos in the Religious School newsletter, in our synagogue Shul Schmooze, the BSC website as well as Social Media groups and other publicity materials.
You may have noticed that at the top of the form we begin with family information. This is intentional. The work of raising and educating Jewish children cannot be done in the school alone, but is a project of the school, the family and the community. You are not just registering your child(ren) for school today, but in fact your entire family. When you come in the building and spend time learning and volunteering with us, you make a powerful statement to your children that Jewish learning is a lifelong process and that we are all on the same team in creating these experiences for them. Don’t underestimate the subtle power of this statement! Our program includes many times when the whole family is invited to participate - particularly our Family Education Program and many Holiday celebrations. In addition to those opportunities to participate we are in need of regular volunteers to make our school work. Would you consider supporting our school in an ongoing role or a limited engagement?
In Jewish tradition, it is the job not only of parents but of the community to provide education for children. Beth Shalom Congregation is committed to this obligation. As such, our religious school fee only covers a portion of the cost of our religious school. We hold both School specific fundraising efforts and congregational dues heavily subsidize our children’s education. Tuition must be paid, or arrangements made, by August 15th.
