Every service of our tradition is composed to take us on a particular emotional journey. During the High Holy Days, the Machzor invites us into a journey of deep reflection that asks us to confront our own mortality and the opportunity to shift the paths of our lives. Join Rabbi Greenspan as we spend time delving into the history, the complexity, and the poetry of some of these prayers. We will look at the Unetaneh Tokef, Kol Nidre, and more. May the time spent in this class help to deepen your experience of some of the most difficult liturgy of the year.

If you would like to purchase a personal copy of the Machzor Lev Shalem, please contact the office.

  • Time:             7:45 PM-9:00 PM
  • Instructor:    Rabbi Dr. Susan Grossman
  • Fee:                $15 members; $30 non-members
The Jewish People's journey through history began with an encounter between a man, Abraham, and an unseeable God. This encounter would not only change Abraham. It gave birth to an entirely new People and their journey that introduced to human history an entirely new way of thinking about the world and our place in it. The Bible and rabbinic literature are filled with stories about how encounters with God changed the individuals who experienced it and impacted the future direction of the Jewish People's impactful journey through history.

Through a combination of lecture, small group text study, and class discussion, Rabbi Grossman will lead participants in an exploration of seminal biblical and rabbinic texts that shaped and continues to serve as the foundation of and inspiration for Jewish faith, ethics, and cohesion.
