A Half Shekel

During the Second Temple period, it was customary for Jews to offer a half shekel annually for Temple maintenance, as a way to be counted among the Jewish People as their ancestors had since biblical times. How much is a half shekel today? According to the ancient Jewish historian Josephus, a half shekel was equivalent to two Athenian drachmae, which was the daily wage of an Athenian soldier. Today, we are in the Second New Normal period (New Normal 2.0). If you can, please contribute at least your half shekel (one day’s wages) for the maintenance of Beth Shalom during this difficult time. Stand up and be counted.
