More Than Just a Building Expansion Update: August 14, 2005
Expansion Program Gets a Boost
Two of our Beth Shalom members (who would like to remain anonymous) have purchased three acres of land adjacent to Beth Shalom for development. While a lot of work has to been done from a planning and zoning perspective, we anticipate taking a part of the three acres to add additional parking to our expansion plan. The remaining land will be developed for residential purposes over the next one to two years. While it is premature to estimate the number of residential units or their value, we do know one thing for certain. One hundred percent (100%) of the net (after expenses) proceeds of the residential development will be donated back to the Beth Shalom More Than Just a Building Expansion Program. We are extremely grateful and proud to have members with such big hearts and who truly believe in helping us to realize our vision so that our children and their children can have enough space to learn, worship and socialize together over the decades to come.
Kitchen Design Moving Ahead
As a part of our design and layout of the new space, we recently met with the architect and designer along with a kitchen designer to discuss the layout and equipment specifications for our new kitchen. Remember that for this phase of the expansion, we are only adding one kitchen (dairy) with future plans to add a second kitchen for meat should we raise enough additional dollars. At this meeting, our More Than Just a Building Expansion Committee included our newly formed kitchen subcommittee who reviewed and provided valuable input on the new design and layouts. We also were thankful to have a well known local caterer join us for the meeting who provided his inputs and perspectives.
So When Do We Start Building?
We are continually asked this question by our members. And our response continues to be, “as soon as we have raised $2.5 million in pledges and/or dollars, we will begin. Thankfully, we are just about halfway there towards this goal and we look forward to sharing our progress with you over the next several months. |
